I just read in an article in the Observer that the price of eggs have gone up a lot and no one can put a finger on why because the industry is shrouded in mystery, for fear of bad press. Yet supermarkets maintain their percentage margins (higher price, bigger profit).
Maybe the supermarkets start off by undercutting independent retailers, causing them to close down as we have seen, then with the decrease in choice, hold us (and suppliers) ransom to however much they want to set their prices. Why are the majority of them profiting in this recession?
Anyway, I do prefer London for the range, accessibility and competitiveness of its independent shops, compared to Leamington Spa (duh, it's a small town). I buy often and fresh, like freshly cut meat from the butchers selling tripe, cow's tongue and chicken heart...and avocado. Yum!

We are playing tonight in Angel at Candid Arts Centre after 9pm, if anyone fancies coming. It's £3 entry - which is less costly than organic eggs!
